Android Code Generator - Login Activity with HTTP API

Quickly and easily generate an Android Studio project with a Login Activity that authenticates to a Node.js API server.

  • Save time by generating all the source code you need for the Activities, Fragments, HTTP connection, Shared Preferences, resource XML and build files

Android Studio's generated Login Activity compares the username and password to a hard-coded collection of dummy values.

This web site's Login Activity authenticates the credentials on a real remote server, saves the user name to Shared Preferences, and keeps track of the logged-in user.

  • Easy-to-use Android Studio project can be imported, built and run in just minutes.
  • Easy-to-learn source code relates to Node.js Tutorial: RESTful API with Nested HTTP Calls

The generated zip file includes:

  • Source code - Java classes and XML layouts for:
    • Activities and Fragments for text input controls, buttons and success/failure messages
    • Material design Toolbar with custom colors and Activity title
  • Customized API call - Uses an HTTP GET or POST in a HttpURLConnection to call a live Node.js server
  • Asynchronous - Avoids stressing the main/UI thread by making the API call in an AsyncTask
  • Login status - Custom user manager keeps track of the logged-in user
  • Shared Preferences - Improves the user experience by saving and re-displaying the user name
  • Support files - Android manifest, launcher icon and gradle files

ADDED BONUS: The download includes files package.json and server.js, so you can run your own Node.js API server that authenticates the credentials from your generated Login Activity.

As of Version 2.0 of all mobile application templates, the GNU General Public License has been retired in favor of an End User License Agreement (EULA) that more accurately reflects the nature of proprietary software that is available by subscription.

In summary, the EULA grants Licensees ownership of and permission to use and sell all End Products generated from the downloaded Software, but you are restricted from re-distributing or reselling the Software itself, except as packaged in the End Products as needed to make them functional.

Please read the EULA in full. A copy is included in each generated Android Studio project, and referenced in the comment header of each Java source file. The retired GNU General Public License is archived here for your reference.
